Saving a variable with a new name

You can create a new variable by editing an existing one and saving it with a different name. This is useful when you want to define alternative ways of tabulating the same variable. You can copy numeric, categorical, text, date, or Boolean variables.

Saving a variable with a new name

Select the variable and edit it as required. See the topic Editing variables for more information.

From the menu, choose

In the Save Variable As dialog, enter a name and description for the variable. Ensure that the variable name conforms to the IBM® SPSS® Data Collection Survey Reporter Naming Conventions.

Choose OK.

Choose Save and Close from the toolbar to close the Edit Variable dialog box.

The dialog box closes and the variable appears in the Variables pane.
