By default, variables are displayed in the Variables pane in the order in which they appear in the survey data file, which is generally the order in which the questions were asked in the survey. You can sort the variables by any of the columns shown in the List view.
► If the List view of the Variables pane is not already visible, display it by choosing
from the menu, or press Alt+2, or choose the List view tab in the Variables pane:
► Click the heading of the column that you want to use to sort the variables. For example, to sort variables alphabetically by name, click the Name heading. To alternate between ascending and descending order, click the heading again. An arrow in the heading indicates whether the sort is ascending or descending.
► To revert to the default order, click the box at the top left of the Variables Pane:
